ABSTRACT
The study was designed to examine the stress management and its impact on organization performance within the context of the University of Benin Academic Staff (2015 – 2023). The objectives of the study include the following: to identify the causes of workplace stress towards effective organisation performance amongst academic staff of the University of Benin, to examine the dimensions of stress amongst academic staff of the University of Benin towards the achievement of organisational performance, to investigate the challenges hindering the effective management of stress amongst academic staff of the University of Benin towards effective organisation performance and proffer possible solutions to the challenges hindering the effective management of stress amongst academic staff of the University of Benin towards effective organisation performance. The study adopted survey research design. According to the Academic Planning Division of the University of Benin, (2021), the population of Academic staff of the University of Benin as at 2021 stands at 1896. The sample size of this study is 120 respondents drawn from three departments in the University of Benin namely, English and Literature, Business Administration, Micro-Biology and Computer Science. The instrument used for the collection of data was the questionnaire which was administered to the study sampled respondents. Out of the 120 questionnaires distributed, 114 copies were retrieved. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentage and chi square analytical method to test the hypotheses generated for the study. The study discovered amongst others that, inadequate funding for research activities is one the challenges hindering the effective management of stress and organisational performance amongst academic staff of the University of Benin. Furthermore, policy recommendations were adopted which include amongst others that, adequate funds should be made available to the University of Benin in order to facilitate research and development of Academic staff
