ABSTRACT

The study is on the relationship between workforce diversity and employee’s commitment in banking industry in Benin City. To achieve this objective, one hundred and sixty eight (168) employees in the regional office of three old generation and three new generation banks in Benin City were randomly selected. Data elicited from the sampled respondents were analysed with descriptive, correlation and multiple regressions with the aim of verifying hypothesized relationship between the variables. The findings are that there is a significant relationship between work force diversity, ethnic diversity, gender diversity, religious diversity, cultural values diversity and work values diversity; while age diversity and skills diversity have no significant relationship with employee’s commitment in banking industry in Benin City. On the basis of this, the study recommends that managements of banks should ensure their work groups are drawn from different ethnic group, religion, gender as well as fulfill the diversity of cultural values held by members through appropriate design of jobs, recruitment, selection and deployment policies.
