ABSTRACT
This study examined work ethics and organizational performance. The objectives of the study were to assess the relationship between workplace ethics and employees commitment to work at Access bank; find out the causes of poor ethics in organizations; ascertain how work ethics is affected by salaries and wages; examine employees adherence towards ethical conducts as a parameter for organizational performance, and examine the awareness of employees ethical conducts in the organization.
The study employed a descriptive survey design. The descriptive method described the demography of respondents using frequency and percentage. The linear regression (ANOVA) analysis will be used to test the close relationship between the variables and also to test the hypotheses of the study. The analysis will be conducted using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS 22) software. The findings from the study revealed that there exist a significant relationship between workplace ethics and employees’ commitment to work at Access bank, and there is a significant relationship between employees’ adherence to ethical conducts and organizational performance in the Access bank.
The study then recommended that leaders and senior managers should demonstrate ethical leadership at workplace in order for the employees to follow suit in meeting the organization’s goals and creating a conducive work environment; the organization should introduce workplace ethics restoration committees that can be under HR department of organisation in the workplace. The committees will be responsible for assessing and monitoring employees’ adherence to workplace ethics by the means of checking and reviewing the compliance to organisational ethical standards, appraising employees’ performance as agreed in contracts and compliance to job descriptions, and the organization should set up a committee that will receive allegations on frauds, misconduct between employees, and any other ethical issues that are reported in various means and take constructive actions and where necessary provide disciplinary actions. This will create awareness among employees on the keenness to work entitled to them, hence will built in employees’ commitment to work which will then impact positively the performance of the organisation.
