ABSTRACT
Elizabeth Ative emphasized that, women play a central role in the process of societal development.1 They contribute not only by enabling procreation but also by nurturing and sustaining life within human societies. Ative highlights that the daily tasks performed by women not only give their role strategic significance but also make it indispensable within society. However, she points out that the genuine worth of women is often not fully acknowledged or appreciated, both by society at large and by women themselves. This lack of recognition has led Ative to conclude that the almost non-existing presence of women within Nigeria's political framework can be attributed largely to this perceived undervaluation and the resultant lack of acknowledgment of their true importance in significant societal decision-making.2 Despite efforts by both government and non-governmental organizations following the Beijing World Conference on Women's declaration for affirmative action3 and the National Gender Policy's recommendation for more inclusive representation4 , women have often been marginalized in the political sphere. E. Erhagbe highlights that despite some advancements in women's political involvement, particularly in the realm of voting, the unfortunate truth remains that women continue to play a notably minor and almost negligible role in the field of elected positions.
