ABSTRACT

Women tend to defy gender norms by excelling in all of their endeavors as a result of the constraints the society put on them. Popular Ghanaian author Amma Darko champions the rights of the oppressed in our society through her writing. In both Faceless and Beyond the Horizon, Amma Darko shows the world how much of a feminist she is. Numerous issues are raised in this work to show the social injustices and the moral lessons to be learned from both texts. Amma Darko, carefully examines these issues that are being faced in our society. Darko's Beyond the Horizon and Faceless also emphasizes the socioeconomic and gender differences in African society that have weakened women and left them vulnerable to oppression and other forms of exploitation. In our society, the magnitude and severity of women's exploitation on both victims and society have not yet been sufficiently recognized and addressed. In respect to that, this work shows how the author openly critics the corrupt societal standards in the African society that gives men the authority to treat women however they choose.
