ABSTRACT
The study has been concerned with Women and the socio-economic development of Ibibioland 1885-1970. The study was necessitated by the erroneous belief of some people that women do not contribute to the development of the society. The research reviewed relevant literature on the topic under consideration, examining women in pre-colonial Ibibioland, women in development and challenges facing women in Ibibioland. To achieve the objectives of this study, relevant books were consulted to elicit information on the role of women and their socio-economic role in the society. It was observed that the level of educational attainment, women active participation in politics, existence of women oriented programmes, all have a positive relationship. Constraints to women participation in development were also identified. Finally, solutions and recommendation were proffered and how best to integrate women more into development processes.
