ABSTRACT
This research study explores the role of WhatsApp in youth activism in Nigeria, with a specific focus on the days preceding the End SARS protest. The aim of this retrospective study is to investigate how WhatsApp served as a communication tool for mobilizing and organizing Nigerian youth during this critical period of social and political upheaval.The findings reveal that WhatsApp played a pivotal role in youth activism during the End SARS protest, facilitating the rapid dissemination of information, coordination of activities, and amplification of voices. The survey design was adopted for the study with the aid of 14 and 10 questionnaire administered 200 respondents purposively selected from the four levels in the department of mass communication in the University of Benin, Benin city, Edo state. Data obtained were analysed and presented with the aid of frequency tables and simple percentage.In conclusion, this retrospective study on WhatsApp and youth activism in Nigeria during the days preceding the End SARS protest highlights the pivotal role played by the messaging platform in mobilizing and organizing Nigerian youth. WhatsApp served as an effective communication tool, facilitating information dissemination, coordination of activities, and amplification of voices during this critical period of social and political upheaval.
