ABSTRACT
The Itsekiri and Ijo ethnic groups both inhabited the Niger Delta region, which is characterized by its intricate network of waterways and creeks. This geographical proximity facilitated interactions, trade, and sometimes conflicts between the two groups. Trade played a significant role in their relationship. The Itsekiri, who were more centralized around the city of Warri, engaged in trade with the Ijo people who lived in various communities along the delta's waterways. They exchanged goods like salt, palm oil, fish, and pottery. This trade led to cultural exchanges as well, influencing art, language, and custom.
