ABSTRACT
Phytoplankton composition and assessment of the water quality of Iguedo River in Edo State, Nigeria using physico-chemical parameters was conducted in this study. Sampling was carried out fortnightly for a period of two months from October 2021 to December 2021. Water samples were collected from three stations along the river for both physico-chemical and phytoplankton analysis. The samples were analysed according to standard methods. The result of the physico-chemical analysis revealed that air temperature, water temperature, total dissolved solids, pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, alkalinity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, sulphate, and nitrate ranged from 260C – 340C, 280C – 290C, 25.0 mg/L – 31.0 mg/L, 6.3 – 9.67, 22 µS/cm – 60 µS/cm, 5.35 mg/L – 8.0 mg/L, 2.03 mg/L – 5.92 mg/L, 10.0 mg/L – 60.0 mg/L, 5.0 mg/L – 50.0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L – 4.0 mg/L, 0.37 mg/L – 1.83 mg/L, 0.15 mg/L – 1.0 mg/L, 1.0 mg/L – 8.0 mg/L, and 0.1 mg/L – 4.8 mg/L respectively.
