ABSTRACT

Aspergillus niger a fungi referred to as the industrial workhorse due to its capability to secrete citric acid. Citric acid is incredibly important in a variety of industries, from the food industry to the cosmetic industry and the medical industry too. Due to the constantly increasing demand for production of citric acid, the major goal in this work is to showcase the variance in the level of citric acid production between a strain of Aspergillus niger and its mutant. The strains were cultured on potato dextrose agar, they were then harvested subjected to submerged fermentation for citric acid production. The titrated products were then analyzed. The findings show the potential avenues for optimizing citric acid production using mutant strain. This research contributes to our understanding of microbial citric acid production and its industrial applications.
