ABSTRACT

The study focuses on the utilization of transformational leadership style in the management of secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study, four research questions were formulated. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study was made up of all the 2,001 students in the 20 public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 students, representing 5% of the population, using the simple random sampling technique.

The findings from this study revealed that: Teachers generally feel motivated and empowered by the principal’s transformational leadership style, students reported a high level of engagement and commitment to their studies as a result of the principal’s leadership approach. Stakeholders, including parents, generally believe that transformational leadership has a positive influence on the overall school environment. The transformational leadership style is associated with improvements in academic performance, transformational leadership contributes to better learning outcomes and behavior management. The following recommendations were made: There should be an expansion of student engagement initiatives given that students have reported high levels of engagement and commitment to their studies due to the principal's leadership approach. Also, here should be increased collaboration with stakeholders, including parents, to enhance the school environment.
