The study examined the use of information sources on climate change among arable crop farmers in Edo state Nigeria. It described the socio-economic characteristics of arable crop farmers, and identified the information sources used by arable crop farmers as well as the respondents’ access, preference and frequency use of agricultural information sources. It also identified the motivational factors for the use of Agricultural information sources and the constraints associated with the use of information sources on climate change among arable crop farmers.
A multi-stage sampling procedure was used in selecting 140 arable crop farmers in Edo State. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, Pearson correlation and chi-square
Results indicates that 79 respondents which make up for 58.8% of the total population used in the study are Male, while 60 respondents which make up for 43.2% of the total population used in the study are Female. This finding show that majority of the respondents fall between the ages of 41 - 50 years which make up 42.4% of the total respondents of the study. The study reveal that the major source of information utilized by farmers include Fellow Farmers (90.6%), Personal Experience (87.8%), and the Television (79.9%). The most important motivation in this case is Simplicity of information source (90.6%) and Ease of access to information source (87.8%). This can also account for why farmers prefer fellow farmers as their information source, which is based on the fact that information from fellow farmers are simple and easy to access.It was recommended that the government and all stakeholders should ensure quality and proper dissemination of information to arable crop farmers in Ovia North East Local government. There should also be period training and sensitization organized in Ovia North East for the arable crop farmers which will address their various information needs.
