ABSTRACT

Nigeria as a nation state enacted the Child’s Right Act in 2003. Despite the creation and adoption of this Act, only about 26 states out of the 36 states of the country have enacted this Act. As a result of this, the rights of the child are still being violated and several practices are carried out which constitute a violation to the right of the child. Examples of these practices are street hawking, guiding beggars, begging for alms, child labor etc 3 . This shows that efforts to resolve these problems by legislative approach would have been basically unsuccessful. This is because legislative bodies cannot be separated from the socio-economic conditions of the people.
