ABSTRACT
This research investigates the views of undergraduate students towards sexual harassment at the University of Benin. The study utilized a descriptive survey design and included all undergraduate students from the university as the target population.
However, data was gathered from a sample of 100 students chosen randomly and conveniently using a structured questionnaire. The findings indicated that sexual harassment primarily targets females more than males, and females are more negatively impacted by such incidents.
The research also reveals that many cases of sexual harassment go unpunished, leaving victims to cope with lasting trauma which can result in psychological issues and mental health struggles. Moreover, the study highlighted the social and health repercussions of sexual harassment including stigma, depression, academic decline, and loss of self-esteem. It is suggested that educational programs raising awareness among students, faculty, and university staff should be implemented to promote effective institutional responses to combat sexual harassment.
