ABSTRACT
This study examined the contributions of the Umuada organization to the economic development of pre-colonial Uli. It was informed by the need to interrogate and expand the narrative on gender discourse. By exploring the roles, activities, and economic strategies employed by the Umuada, this research sheds light on the significant yet often overlooked impact of women in traditional economic structures. It highlights how the Umuada facilitated trade, resource management, and social cohesion, contributing to sustainable development within their communities. The study seeks to challenge prevailing historiographical biases that have minimized women's roles in economic history, emphasizing their agency in shaping local economies.
