ABSTRACT

The exponentiated half-logistic distribution is one of the lifetime distributions that has been used quite effectively in modeling lifetime data, but there are some situations where the exponentiated half-logistic distribution may not provide a good fit in analyzing lifetime data sets. This has led to several extensions of the exponentiated half-logistic distribution with the common goal of increasing its flexibility.

In this thesis, we employ the  method of generalization to introduce an extension of the exponentiated half-logistic distribution which we call, the Type II Weibull Exponentiated Half-Logistic (TIIWEHL) distribution. Mathematical properties of the TIIWEHL distribution were derived and the maximum likelihood estimation method was used to estimate the unknown parameters of the TIIWEHL distribution.

Finally, two lifetime data sets were used to illustrate the flexibility of the TIIWEHL distribution. Result obtained revealed that the TIIWEHL distribution

provided better fit for the two data sets under study than the Odd Weibull Exponentiated Half-Logistic (OWEHL) distribution, Kumaraswamy Half Logistic (KHL) distribution, Exponentiated Half-Logistic Exponential (EHLE) distribution, Exponentiated Half-Logistic (EHL) distribution, Type II Half-Logistic Weibull (TIIHLW) distribution, Half-Logistic (HL) distribution.
