SUMMARY
Most people who suffer abuse do not ever recover. From sexual abuse to domestic violence to emotional blackmail, victims may never recover from all of these. Some persons do not grow enough strength to cut ties with their abusers and others might leave by drawing strength from external sources like family, friends and organizations. In both narratives, we see how two female characters undergo abuse, humiliation and manipulation at the hands of their partners. Mara particularly is victimized and exploited in ways we wont foretell at the start of the novel. We find her in deep agony from the very first chapter, talking to herself and trying to imagine what her life will be. Hers is a case of exploitation from the very start of her life. Social conditioning teaches that she is inferior to her male counterpart and so must worship him.
