TRAINING NEEDS OF PLANTAIN FARMERS

ABSTRACT

This study assessed the training needs of plantain farmers in Ovia North-East local government area, Edo State, Nigeria. Findings indicate that farmers require training in using new plantain varieties (80%), while mulching, de-suckering, and de-budding were less emphasized (41.3%). Constraints, with inadequate farmland as the most significant (mean value: 3.53), impact training needs. Socio-economic characteristics have a significant relationship with training needs (R²: 40%), and there is a strong correlation (R: 73%) between training needs and constraints faced. This highlights the importance of targeted training programs to enhance plantain farming practices, considering farmers' characteristics and constraints.
