ABSTRACT
Human trafficking and sex slavery require serious attention because they affect the physical and mental health of the victims, tampers with their identity and makes them social aliens.
This essay explores the various reasons why individuals go into trafficking, why individuals are trafficked and the effect trafficking and sex slavery has on the victims.
We will focus on two female authors and their respective narratives. Amma Darko’s Beyond the Horizon and Akachi Ezeibgo’s Trafficked.
We will do a comparative study of the texts stated above. In order to achieve this we will employ two theories. The contemporary trauma theory to depict the pain associated with trafficking and sex slavery and feminist theory to draw attention to the female gender as the major target of traffickers.
The experiences of the trafficked individuals will not be excluded. Role of parents and non- governmental organizations will also not be left out.
