ABSTRACT
Traffic volume study is one of the most important studies carried out on public facilities, especiallyona busy road like the Benin-Lagos Expressway. The essence usually varies from city to city dependingon its level of development and the projected level of safety it envisages for. This study has reviewed, highlighted and discussed the causes, general effects and possible solutions to the regular trafficcongestions on the ever busy road which has become almost a norm for a quite long period of time. The study employed simple method of manual traffic count in gathering the data required for thestudy. A set of questionnaires with few relevant questions concerning the management of the trafficon the road was equally administered on the drivers who ply the ■road within the period of the study. Tally system of bundle and strokes were used in the study for easy documentation of the volumeof the traffic being counted. Attention was focused on the traffic flow throughout the period of count andany reasonable observation recorded accordingly.
