ABSTRACT
This study aims at explaining the tonal adaptation of English loanwords into the Yoruba language. The data collected were analyzed using the Auto-segmental theory. Based on the findings in the course of this work, it is observed that the Yoruba Mid-High-Low tonal pattern corresponds to the English rise and fall citation contour and that the English final syllable is consistently marked by Low tone in loan words.
