ABSTRACT
The study investigates different styles used for artistic expression, presenting a comparative analysis of Richard Wright’s Black Boy and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream.” It shows the use of autobiographical writings and speech making techniques in literature and how these two approaches can be used to achieve the same purpose. Through the style, the essay analyzes the major themes addressed in Black Boy and “I Have a Dream” ; the defects of racial segregation, the importance of collective responsibility, social awareness and intellectual hunger amidst others. In addition, findings reveal the similarities between autobiography and realism, the careful deployment of diction, tone and mode and figurative expressions. The essay concludes that literature reveals the totality of humanity and artists employ unique styles in presenting their works. .
