ABSTRACT
This study assessed “THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN INSTRUMENT FORASS MOBILIZATION AND POSITIVE CHANGE: A CASE STUDY OF END SARS PROTEST". The study aimed to determine if Social media was an effective instrument to mobilize people during the EndSARS movement. The survey research method was used to gather data for the study and the theoretical framework revolved around Technological determinism theory, and Technological Acceptance theory. Findings from this study revealed that social media was actually an effective tool for mass mobilization and positive change during the cause of the EndSARS protest. The study also made notice some challenges derived from using the platform during the protest which were a high tendency of misinformation, censorship and fake news. The study therefore concluded that social media is a very effective tool for mass mobilization and positive change as it helped reflect social media’s capacities and strength in educating, informing, entertaining and mobilizing people on various trending issues as they come. The study recommended that the Contents posted on social media must be verified so that people are given accurate information that does not mislead the public on issues concerning national matters and security, and Social media should be used effectively as an instrument for mass mobilization as it would help to create awareness and solutions to issues that pertains to human rights.
