ABSTRACT
This study delves into the cultural and symbolic significance of proverbs as portrayed in three Nigerian movies: "Invasion 1897," "Orisá," and "Jagun Jagun." The research focuses on two distinct types of proverbs extracted from the films: proverb of warnings and proverb of advice. Through a thorough analysis of these proverbs, the study aims to uncover deeper insights into the societal values, beliefs, and traditions reflected in Nigerian cinema, highlighting how proverbs serve as vehicles for conveying cultural wisdom and moral guidance.
The thesis investigates how proverbs of warning serve as cautionary tales, urging individuals to heed the consequences of their actions. It examines the didactic nature of these proverbs, their influence on the project's analysis, and their role in promoting the plot and character development within the films. Additionally, the research explores the aesthetic and cultural roots of proverbial warnings, shedding light on their societal significance and implications for narrative storytelling.
