ABSTRACT
This study explores the efficacy of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in advancing adult education within Egor Local Government Area (LGA). With adult education emerging as a critical component of lifelong learning, particularly in addressing literacy and skill gaps, the integration of ICT presents an innovative approach to reach and engage adult learners. The study examines the availability and accessibility of ICT infrastructure and resources, as well as the readiness and capacity of adult learners to utilize these technologies. By analyzing the impact of ICT tools such as online courses, educational apps, and digital literacy programs, the research aims to provide insights into effective strategies for promoting adult education through ICT in Egor LGA.
The research project used a descriptive survey approach to investigate how ICT has been used, the strategies employed, the challenges faced and the outcomes achieved. The population of the study consists of ninety(90) adult learners in Egor local government area, using simple random sampling technique and sixteen (16) questionnaire questions were raised to guide the study. The study further showed that adult learners in Egor LGA have different challenges which persists from infrastructure limitation to the need of continuous training for educators and learners to unavailability of ICT devices in some centres.
In conclusion, this study sheds light on the potentials of ICT to revolutionize education in Egor LGA. Policymakers, educators and stakeholders can leverage these insights to strategically address challenges fostering a more inclusive and technologically adept educational environment tailored to meet the specific needs of this region in Edo state Nigeria.
