ABSTRACT
U.S.-China relations have always been complicated and far from ideal. One example of the complicated interactions is the trade dispute between the United States and China. As part of this conflict, the United States imposed trade restrictions on China on the grounds that the country engaged in aggressive commercial tactics, such as cyber espionage, forced technological transfers, and theft of intellectual property (IP). China hit back by imposing trade restrictions on America. Consequently, the purpose of this research was to look at why the United States started a trade war with China, how the trade war has affected international commerce, and how the personalities of Trump and Xi have played a role in the trade war. Using a theoretical framework based on hegemonic stability and power transition, the research assessed the whole argument. According to the research, the United States went to war primarily to ensure its continued political and economic supremacy on a worldwide scale. As a kind of retribution, China showed that it was willing to challenge the current American power structure. A tangled web of Trumpian and Xian leadership personalities entangled the battle. Worldwide, the war affected states because of the impending threat of inflation. But the conflict has compelled some nations to trade in products where they excel. The research concluded that a diplomatic approach would be the best way for the two nations to gain each other's trust and confidence.
