SUMMARY
This study has examined the contributions of Fela Anikulapo Kuti to the democratization process in Nigeria. It has interrogated the chaotic and destabilizing situation in Nigeria, where Fela-Kuti exposes the Nigerian government misrule, he was a pillar and freedom fighter via his music for the Nigeria state. This study has given an overview of Fela-Kuti’s antecedence to pan-Africanism and democratic struggle in Nigeria. Following that, the purpose of the study was started, viz to dispel the growing negative perception that Afro-beat do not promote good governance and democratic tenet in Nigeria and that it was a music that promote the negative image of the Nigeria government. The study also examined examines the relationship between music and politics with particular reference to Afro-Beat music. Hence, it focuses on the biography and legacy of Fela Anikkulapo Kuti and its Afro-Beat music, the contributions of music’s and songs to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria. The period between the introduction of Afro-Beat music in Nigeria and it influence on the democratic development of Nigeria politics (1918 and 1947) the study examines the contributions of Fela music for the promotion of democracy in Nigeria; Fela Kuti was a musician and political and social activist in Nigeria especially in the 1970s and 1980s, when he was involved in writing and performing songs with political messages.
