ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the socio-religious impacts of the Ogboni fraternity in Ikale, Ondo State. The study design adopted was a historical method. This method has been deemed suitable for study because the information that will be obtained shall be from primary and secondary sources. The study find out that the Ogboni is a fraternity. cult”. The study also examined the history of Ogboni in Ikale and activities of Ogboni in Ikale. The study recommended that the Ogboni fraternity has been accused to engaged in intimidation and coercion of person to become members of the group, hence the government should subject the group to closed monitoring in order to bring perpetuator legal prosecution (if any), the Federal and State agencies should endear the group to subject their activities to public scrutiny in accordance to the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the group not to be tag secret cult, the group should come out clean of any ill activities by subjecting their activities to public openness and legal grounds for sensitisation should be granted to the group in order to educate the members of the public on certain criteria and activities as carried out by the union. This may further bridge the gap created by the question of disparities between members and non-members well as eliminating the fear of secrecy in the minds of non-members of the society.
