ABSTRACT
In deliberate brevity and precision, this project reveals the historical development of the Amaofuo community. With emphasis heavily laid on indigenously evolved ideas and practices, the baseless assumptions of Eurocentric writers as found in articles of cheap literature are also refuted, paving way for the light of a people, a culture and of course, a society in pre-colonial Igboland to shine bright. From the "Otubuihe"- centered tradition of origin which began with a resettlement account, one is already thrust into the reality of the much importance attached to migratory stories in the historical development of societies. In fact, migration is as old as man himself and does not necessarily suggest the movement of a whole race, people or community enmasse from some very distant land to another, it could be the movement of a very few number of persons from one area to another no matter the distance. The formation of the Amaofuo community from a single "Okpo"(settlement), founded by the progenitor to the movement of other set of immigrants into the new area until the population was grown enough for the natural emergence of the four villages that have endured till date, all speak volume of the organic process by which societies evolve overtime. And as the people interacted with their new environment to ensure continuity of life and survival, the socio-economic history of the would-be community developed in 74 same pace- although this was nothing unscanny from what was obtainable in other Igbo societies under this periodization.
