ABSTRACT
this research has brought forth a comprehensive understanding of the crucial role played by Urhobo chants in fostering community cohesion and upholding cultural identity. Through an extensive exploration of the rich heritage of Urhobo chants, it has been revealed that these melodic expressions possess immense power as vehicles for communication, unity, and collective remembrance within the Urhobo community. Examination of diverse Urhobo chants not only uncovered their ability to transmit historical narratives but also highlighted their embodiment of shared experiences, values, and beliefs cherished by the Urhobo people. Acting as a conduit, these chants serve as a means for community members to pass down cultural knowledge, customs, and traditions from one generation to another. Active participation in chanting rituals enables individuals to reinforce their sense of belonging, identity, and pride in their cultural heritage.
