ABSTRACT
The concept of mythology is a phenomenom that deals with Cultural and traditional background. The issues that literature deals with are relevant today society. Myth has served as a tool for shaping belief system and culture as well as the societal norms, myth also serves as a form of inculcating moral guidance.
This project work therefore attempts to explore the significance of myth dealing with the importance and function as discussed in The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma and Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okarafor. The novels address myth as it affects our lives today and even before in time past , the novels have been selected to be analyzed according to it’s importance and functions and various elements of myth can be identified in the novels e.g the Omi- Ala River .
The concept of myth is identified as captivating and inspiring as it serves as a drive through the narrative, it shows how myth is relevant and reveals the unknown as well as propounding values through it’s functions in the society
