Abstract
Although the plays contain many proverbs, only a few are studied in this chapter to illustrate their thematic significance. These proverbs function thematically, particularly in the context of their use. The study of folklore, as done in this chapter, is crucial to understanding Clement Odia's plays because it helps shape the themes, particularly the use of proverbs. The proverbs' thematic relevance heightens the reader's sense of wisdom in understanding the value of reason, keeping pledges and vows, placing less emphasis on material goods, and opposing bribes and corruption, and their enduring effects.
