ABSTRACT
This study presents a comprehensive analysis on semantics of truth and beauty Igbo. There have been limited research studies conducted in the field of beauty and truth, and none of them specifically focused on the Igbo language. Therefore, this research aims to explore and examine the linguistic and cultural dimensions of expressing beauty and truth in the Igbo language. By investigating the semantics of beauty and truth in Igbo language, the study seeks to deepen our understanding of how beauty and truth are communicated within the Igbo community. The research work applied the interdisciplinary approach, and uses interdisciplinary approach that combines elements from linguistics, aesthetics, cultural studies, and anthropology. Furthermore, literary analysis and anthropology was utilized to examine how truth and beauty are represented in Igbo literature, including oral traditions and contemporary writings, providing insights into their role in shaping cultural norms and beliefs. The researcher collected data through both primary data where the interview and the secondary data which was collected from various sources, including literature, official documents, and traditional texts. The researcher used qualitative analysis approach to analyze data for this project. After the examination of these two concepts, it is established that the concept of beauty in Igbo, different concepts and terms are used to express beauty and truth, explaining their meaning and the values they hold. The study also reveals that beauty is most frequently linked with the words nature, woman, love; it is also linked to inner beauty. Again, it is clear that the Igbo concept of truth tallies or corresponds with the correspondence theory of truth since it depends on verification of facts before a statement can be said to be eziokwu.
