Summary
The study was conducted to investigate the roles of indigenous languages in the national; Nigeria development. Hundred (100) students were randomly selected across different faculties in the University of Benin.
The researcher concludes that many Nigerians perceive the unresolved and non-functionality of several languages in the country disturbing with little and no reason for the development of the language except for being used by a very small number of ages native language users therefore causing apartheid in the society. This is because according to the data collected, majority of students believe that the numerous indigenous languages in the country is a major problem that deter the growth of the country. This is because many of this language are lef unrecognized with no viable function except from being used among some group of old indigenes.
