ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of the Commonwealth in promoting sustainable development in its member countries, with a specific focus on Nigeria. The study adopted historical research method; data was collected from secondary method. The study reveals that the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 54 countries, has a commitment to promoting sustainable development among its member states. This research investigates the initiatives and programs implemented by the Commonwealth to promote sustainable development in Nigeria, including capacity building, technical assistance, and funding support. The study reveals that the Commonwealth has made significant contributions to Nigeria's sustainable development, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. However, challenges persist, and the study recommends increased collaboration and coordination between the Commonwealth and Nigeria to achieve sustainable development goals. The findings of this study have implications for policy and practice, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development in developing countries.
