THE ROLE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS IN ENHANCING PEACE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

ABSTRACT

There is no gainsaying in the fact that public relations play an important role in any organization. Public relations has remained a powerful tool in building and maintaining mutual understanding in every organization including creating and maintain good relationship between and among its various public, it also help in building good image and satisfy the needed information by the public. Thus this study seeks to examine the role of public relations in enhancing peace in the University of Benin. The Survey method was adapted for the study whereby questionnaire was used to gather information from respondent . Stratefied random sampling techniques was used to draw 351 respondents and 303 questionnaires were returned. Findings show that majority of respondents agreed that Public Relations plays a vital role in enhancing peace in the University of Benin . Also, respondents agree that Public Relation serves a management function in higher Institution of learning. It is recommended that public relation should be regarded in higher institutions to enhance mutual understanding and mutual relation among the students, staff and management in higher institutions across the globe. The study also recommends that management of institutions, organizations whether private or public, should constantly keep their Public relations department informed about the happenings in the organization, this is to enable them stay abreast with happenings that affects its publics and be able to make prompt response to such issues.
