ABSTRACT
The study is focused on the role of photography in documenting Nigerian street culture: a study of urban art and performance. The objectives of the study were to determine the impact of photography in Nigerian street culture and understand the impacts of street culture on the Nigerian creative industry in preserving cultural heritage. In terms of theoretical framework, the social presence theory and the knowledge gap theory was adopted by the researcher, while the research employed the use of interview and content analysis for data gathering. Findings of the study revealed that photography has played a crucial role in changing perceptions, documenting trends, preserving culture and history of Nigerian street culture in Benin city. Based on the findings, it was concluded that photography had indeed successfully documented and preserved relevant moments. The researcher therefore recommended that photographers should collaborate to create platforms that celebrate street culture through exhibitions, and festivals. It was also recommended that the government fund and ensure programs and competitions be held to build interest in the documentation of Nigerian street culture. promote support to photographers documenting street culture.
