SUMMARY
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have played a significant role in the political history of Nigeria, particularly in the transition from military rule to democracy. The prolonged rule of the military in Nigeria had negative effects on the country, including the neglect of the rule of law, an over-concentration of power at the center, and widespread dissatisfaction among the people. NGOs played a major role in bringing about a more democratic government and promoting good governance. While some NGOs may have supported military rule for personal gain, the new democratic era brought with it guarantees of fundamental human rights. The participation of NGOs in politics has been a subject of debate in academic circles, with discussions on their scope, limitations, and functions. NGOs can finance and implement their own policies, gain the support of the public, and empower marginalized groups. This can contribute to participative democracy. The main objective of this research work was to examine the role of non-governmental organizations as it relates to Oxfam.
