ABSTRACT
The rapid rise of modern media platforms has revolutionized various aspects of contemporary society, including gender. This study delves into how modern media has changed how students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), now interact with gender stereotypes, with an aim to understand the concept of gender stereotypes amongst students, and understand how modern media influences their perception of gender stereotypes. The study made use of a survey research method with a structured questionnaire distributed to several UNIBEN students. The data collected through the questionnaire were analyzed using statistical tools to identify patterns relating to how modern media is affecting gender stereotypes, and students perception to it. The findings of the study shed light on the prevailing use of modern media amongst people of various age groups, and that the effects of modern media on students exist, but not overarching. The study also showed how perceptions on gender and gender stereotypes are viewed amongst students, and to what extent modern media plays a part. Consequently, the researcher concluded that UNIBEN students make use of modern media, and that it does have an effect on their views concerning gender stereotypes, but it is not a major factor.
