CONCLUSION

        This work examines the role of media in the promotion of democratic governance in Nigeria. Democracy is built on the equality of citizens; the freedom of these citizens to associate with oneanother for the realization of their ideals and the defense and promotion of their interests; and thefreedom of these citizens to choose between the different political platforms of various politicalparties and candidates, and see to the actualization of the platforms they have voted for, if theirchoices win. It is important to note here that constitutional democracy is the basis for good governance as good governance is theantidote to corruption. Universally speaking, democracy as a form of government has had a long-termrelationship with the mass media.

        The mass media refers to organized means of dissemination of fact, opinion, entertainment andother mass media includes newspapers, magazines, radio, television, internet, books and otherforms of published materials. The term refers to the meansof public communication reaching a large audience. In sense, mass media are the tools or technologies that facilitate dissemination of information and entertainment to a vast number ofconsumers. Mass media reaches large numbers of people for information, education, persuasiveand entertainment reasons. It is a means of communication for interchange of thoughts or ideas.

        The mass media is a diversified collection of media technologies that reach a large audience via masscommunication. The technology through which this communication takes place includes a variety ofoutlets. Broadcast media transmit information electronically, via such media as film, radio, recordedmusic, or television. Digital media comprises both Internet and mobile mass communication. Internetmedia comprise such services as email, social media sites, websites, and Internet-based radio andtelevision.Print media transmit information via physical objects, such as books, comics, magazines, newspapers,or pamphlets. Outdoor media transmit information via such media as billboards, placards placed inside and outside of buses, commercialbuildings, shops, sports stadiums, subway cars, or trains.
