ABSTRACT

Language is a crucial tool for the literary transmission of a people's culture in a particular society. Literature serves as a social commentary. As a result, language, as a fundamental tool of communication in society, works well in literary work. The Igbo language has the power to empower those who speak it. If used correctly, proverbs, which are a part of the Igbo language, have the power to improve the conversational abilities of its users. The goal of this work is to explain proverbial meanings and demonstrate how they might be used to resolve conflicts. The idea of conflict receives thorough consideration. The results demonstrate that disputes between spouses, between parents and children, and between siblings do arise in Igbo society, and that proverbs are frequently invoked in Igbo culture to prevent and settle disputes. Igbo proverbs, a feature of Igbo language, should be embraced for effective interpersonal communication. It’s appropriate use and knowledge greatly aid in conflict resolution and foster an environment conducive to peaceful coexistence among Igbo society's citizens.
