ABSTRACT
The subject matter of this research work is to evaluate the extent to which Small Scale entrepreneurs in Nigeria have been able to obtain loans and raise finance from Nigerian Commercial Banks as a major source of finance to the economy. The main objective of this research work is to evaluate the roles of commercial banks in small scale entrepreneurial development. A review of literature was done to ensure the conclusion of the study. Descriptive statistics were computed for organizational data and the main characteristics of the study variables. Data was presented in form of tables. The result of the data collected revealed that Small and Medium Enterprises encounter problems in the procurement of loans from commercial banks. Commercial banks loans and advances have contributed significantly to the development of small and medium enterprises. Also, Small and Medium Enterprises significantly contributed to the growth and development of Nigeria's economy. The research concluded that for small scale enterprises to survive, there have to be a collective effort between them and banks. Also the government should engage more in the development of Small Scale Enterprises by creating and embarking on various incentives to encourage both Small Scale Enterprises and commercial banks. Commercial banks should recognize the need of granting loans to the small scale enterprises as means of generating employment and enhancing growth of the economy.
