ABSTRACT
In contemporary architectural discourse, the convergence of design and human experience has evolved beyond traditional considerations of form and function. This study delves into the dynamic interplay between color palettes, and architectural design, focusing on the University of Benin as a case study. Recognizing the transformative potential of colors in shaping sensory perceptions, emotional responses, and overall usability within built environments, this research investigates their integration as essential components of user-centric design. The study encompasses multifaceted objectives, including evaluating the existing sound environments across diverse locations within the University of Benin's campus and scrutinizing their impact on users' emotional engagement and functional activities. By examining the prevailing color palettes within different architectural spaces, the research aims to unravel the intricate relationship between color psychology and users' moods, perceptions, and interactions. Through surveys and qualitative analysis, it seeks to unveil how students, faculty, and visitors emotionally respond to the current and color environments present across the campus. In addition to the context-specific exploration, the study delves into proposing strategic design interventions that weave color principles into the University of Benin's architectural fabric. These recommendations are tailored to align with the distinct acoustics, lighting conditions, materials, and aesthetic preferences of the university's diverse spaces. Furthermore, the study delves into the feasibility of implementing these design changes, accounting for logistical, financial, and maintenance considerations. Drawing inspiration from successful case studies of similar architectural projects, the research offers a comparative analysis of user experiences within the University of Benin and other educational institutions that have embraced user-centric color design principles. By bridging the gap between design theory and real-world implementation, this study aspires to provide valuable insights for architects, designers, and decision-makers, fostering a holistic approach to architectural design that prioritizes the multisensory well-being of occupants. In essence, this research endeavors to illuminate the transformative potential of colors in modern architectural design, demonstrating their capacity to foster enriched environments that resonate with the emotional and functional needs of the University of Benin's vibrant community and potentially inspiring similar initiatives in educational institutions worldwide.
