ABSTRACT
This study aims to assess the role of adult education in preserving Benin's cultural heritage in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The population comprised 549,700 residents, from which a sample of 376 was selected using simple random sampling. A descriptive survey research design was utilized, employing a structured questionnaire to gather data on program availability, contributions to cultural preservation, barriers faced, and implemented strategies. Data analysis involved calculating means and standard deviations, with acceptance criteria set at a mean score of 2.5 or above. The findings reveal that adult education programs are available and significantly contribute to the preservation of Benin's cultural heritage. However, challenges such as insufficient funding, limited qualified instructors, inconvenient program timings and locations, high costs, and traditional teaching methods were identified. Strategies to enhance cultural preservation through adult education include the use of online platforms, digital tools, partnerships with cultural institutions, and community collaboration. Recommendations include increasing funding and resources, improving instructor capacity through training, addressing accessibility issues, and adopting innovative teaching methods to boost engagement and retention.
