ABSTRACT

The study showed the residual effects of herbicides on some chemical properties of soil. 3 kg of top soil were weighed into a 4 liter bucket and treated with glyphosphate, paraquate, butachlor and antrazin at different ratios and at three levels: 0 level, recommeded rate and twice recommended rate. Soil samples were collected from the various applications; air- dried and analyzed using standard laboratory procedure. The result show a pH ranged from 5.46 – 5.89, total nitrogen ranged from 0.71 – 1.15 g/kg, the Mg, Ca, Na, and K were below the critical level indictaing a negative effect of these application of herbicides on the soil chemical properties.
