ABSTRACT
Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. is a species of shrub that is a member of the Malvaceae family. The calyces contain a significant amount of acid and pectin. The calyces have been analyzed, and the results have revealed the presence of crude protein as well as a number of minerals including iron, phosphorus, calcium, manganese, aluminum, magnesium, salt, and potassium. Intraocular pressure, the pressure within the eye, plays a pivotal role in maintaining healthy vision and preventing ocular diseases such as glaucoma. Meanwhile, hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a global health concern associated with a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and various other health complications. The study aimed to determine the effect of Hibiscus Sabdariffa Linn. Extract (Zobo drink) on intraocular pressure and blood pressure. The experimental study used data from 50 participants between the ages 18 to 50 years from the University of Benin, Department of Optometry, optometry clinic, Benin City, Edo State. Participants were given a comprehensive checkup that included a blood pressure check, a tonometry reading and weight. The MCP digital blood pressure apparatus was utilised to take the participant's blood pressure readings, participant weight is measured using the Camry mechanical weight scale, the Perkins hand-held applanation tonometer was used to measure intraocular pressure. Data was analyzed using the IBM statistical program for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.0. We analyzed the relationship between the change in IOP and BP using multiple linear regression. A total of 50 participants were examined in this study with no even distribution between gender. The participants were aged between 18 to 50 years of age.
