ABSTRACT

The failed bomb attack by Umar Farouk Abdulmutalab the Nigerian-born, western educated, radical underwear bomber was a near miss, had it been successful it would have placed severe strain on the airline industry although most likely not long-lasting impact. The united states people have consistently shown a rigid stance towards terrorism and because of the strength of the economy, the constant bombardment and violent news reported to the citizens daily, an attack will need to be of such an extreme magnitude before it could have any significant impact like the September 11, 2001 attack. This does not however dispute the fact that small scale business attacks which are often complex gives the authority more opportunities to thwart it.
