ABSTRACT
The restoration of stability and peace in northeastern Nigeria is imperative. The psychological health of displaced children, and adults must be attended to, internally displaced persons also need support in order to survive. While many agencies do bits and pieces of this sort of work, their efforts are not coordinated, and there is no lasting structure to engage the work. It is possible to recover from trauma. However even those who are resilient require intensive psychological support. Nigeria must provide this psychological support system to aid in the survival and recovery of traumatized persons most especially women and children. The government should establish a center of excellence that provides cutting edge, culturally appropriate trauma care to address PTSD, depression, anxiety and other issues.
