ABSTRACT
This study was carried out with the aim to examine the politicization of religion in northern Nigeria and its effects on the Nigeria federalism. In order to actualize the objectives of the study, various literature and theoretical issues were discussed. The instrument used for the purpose of this research was gathered through primary source. The mass of information generated from the questionnaire was summarized in form of table and analyzed using simple percentage. The researcher administered one hundred (100) questionnaires to respondents, out of which eighty (80) were retrieved for the purpose of presenting and analyzing responses to issues raise in the questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested using Z-test statistical tool. The findings from analysis revealed among others things that politicization is likely to lead to disunity and that politicization of religion will undermine the principle of federalism. We therefore recommend that the government should set machinery in motion wherein there should be mutual respect for different religious views for this would unfailing create a commonwealth of free believers united to one another by love and justice.
