ABSTRACT
This study investigated stakeholders’ perception of the influence of sports facilities on sports development in Edo State Sports Commission. To guide the study, six research questions were raised and analysed. The study was hinged on the social system theory.
The study is a descriptive research that adopted the survey design with sports stakeholders’ population of 720 from the Edo State Sports Commission.The sample of the study was 234 which represented 30% of sports stakeholders. One questionnaire which was validated with a reliability coefficient of 0.89 was used to collect data for the study. Mean and percentage were applied to answer the research questions.
Findings from the analysis revealed that there is a strong positive correlation between stakeholders’ perception of facilities on sports development in Edo State Sports Commission, on sports policy formulation, organisation, participation, employment generation and private sector investment. The study concluded that stakeholders have a positive perception of the influence of sports facilities on sports development, formulation of sports policy, organization of sports programmes, participation, generation of employment opportunities and private sector investment. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that Edo State Sports Commission should ensure that adequate facilities are provided, formulateappropriate policies, encourage inclusive participation, encourage employment generation and private sector investment to foster sports development.
